Zydeco. Rice and gravy. And community building.
The University of Louisiana at ɫAV’s magazine is called La Louisiane for a reason. The Fall 2025 issue – now available in print and digitally – captures the spirit of the Bayou State and features stories that highlight the work faculty, staff and students do to improve this special place we call home.
The cover story celebrates the legacy of Clifton Chenier, the founding father of zydeco. His 100th birthday inspired a tribute album – featuring an opening track by The Rolling Stones – that benefits a new music scholarship in the University’s traditional music program.
And speaking of entertainment, the magazine profiles Scott Durbin. He now heads the University’s music business program, but he was once known on the Disney Channel as “Mover Scott,” a member of the Imagination Movers. He is using his industry savvy to inspire the next generation of music makers, right here on campus.
This issue of La Louisiane also offers its readers a think piece about the enduring connection between the University and the city of ɫAV, and how the Hub City’s plans for its future have UL ɫAV at their core.
Other stories in this issue:
- Celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Hilliard University Art Museum.
- Bite into science with the discovery of the largest mastodon tooth in the U.S. that’s now at the UL ɫAV Science Museum.
- Explore mental health resources the University offers its students.
- Alumni serve up some Cajun camaraderie (and rice and gravy).
- Profile new men’s head basketball coach Quannas White and detail his plans to pack the Cajundome this season.
Printed copies are available on campus and throughout the community. They are also mailed to alumni, friends, University supporters and community partners.
